CREAW Board of Directors' Biographies

CREAW is executively run by a distinguished Board of Directors.  The Board is comprised of diverse professionals based around the world.  CREAW is honoured to have such experienced, talented, and passionate professionals as part of the team, dedicating themselves to ensure CREAW maximizes its potential and successfully achieves its mission.

Ann Wairimu Njogu - Chairperson

Ann is a highly motivated, creative and versatile Executive with over 19 years of experience at senior management levels in various successful and fast growing organizations. She is the founder of CREAW. In 2010, she received an International Woman of Courage award from the US Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton. She is Legal Advisor and consultant to various local and international organizations, actively involved in advocacy, lobbying and community awareness on gender with extensive exposure and experience in human rights and development issues. Ann is an advocate of the High Court of Kenya and an active member of various National, Regional and International professional organizations.

As the Chairperson, Ann is responsible for directing the operations of CREAW's Board of Directors, to ensure that they are in tandem with the mission, vision and core values of the organization, and in addition to oversee the attainment of the Board policies and CREAW's goals and objectives as well as designing, formulating and implementing the same. In consultation with the board, she also strategizes on the development of the organization polices and systems. Ann has two children Ted and Stephanie.

Judy Thongori – Ex-Official and immediate former Chairperson

Judy Thongori is the immediate former Chairperson and co-founder of CREAW. Her goal is to work in development and legal initiatives that gear towards achieving an equitable society in which there is zero tolerance to Gender-Based Violence and respect for human rights.

She has the experience of over 19 years of practice as a lawyer with 8 of those years in implementing programmes on women’s rights issues. Part of her work has involved provision of legal services to the under-privileged and taking on public interest litigation. She has been in the forefront in spreading legal awareness through public awareness, seminars, workshops and the media. She has also been proactive in lobbying for laws that are responsive to the needs of women. Judy is married to John Thongori and they have two children.

Gina Din-Kariuki

Gina Din-Kariuki is a highly accomplished Media and Corporate Communications Consultant with 24 years’ experience in the private sector, and over 12 years’ experience at a senior management level in Kenya’s leading bank.  She graduated from the London School of Journalism in 1982.
In 1997, Gina founded the leading integrated public relations firm in the East African region - Gina Din Corporate Communications (GDCC) - that has won several Public Relations Society of Kenya (PRSK) awards. She has specialized in the formulation and execution of efficient and effective public relations and corporate communications strategies for organizations seeking to develop a desired image and understanding amongst their target publics.
Being highly experienced and with a passion for social and voluntary work, Gina brings to CREAW strategies that will increase our internal and external communications that  are at the core of our programs, to increase the frontiers for women’s human rights, as well build a harmonious society.

Clement Mwangi


Clement has extensive experience in strategic and financial management of companies and is a skilled interpreter, translator, and developer of communications products for children. Clement is a bilingual in English and French as speaks intermediate level German. He earned Bachelors and Masters degrees in Finance, Banking and Insurance from the University of Nantes, France; and a subsequent Masters degree in Education and International Cooperation at Rene Descartes University (Paris V), France.

Since 2005, he has built varied experience as an independent consultant in Educational Planning, Translation and Interpretation (English/French). Clement is also the Founder and Director of PSILON Limited and Kids Can! Limited, and is actively involved in diverse advisory and leadership capacities at various other Civil Society institutions.
His proficiency is instrumental to strengthening the internal financial mechanisms that go into the proper financial administration of CREAW’s programs.

Esther Mwaura

Esther is a passionate and dynamic Senior Education Officer. Currently, she is the District Quality Assurance & Standards Officer– Eastern Region, with the Public Service Commission under the Ministry of Education. She is in charge of standards in all education institutions in Embu District. She is involved in capacity building of school managers, administrators and teaches Co-Curricular activities in all education institutions in Embu District. She has also been involved in enhancement of Guidance and Counseling, ensuring sound financial management as well as ensuring effective curriculum implementation in education institutions. CREAW has been able to tap into her wide experience in community service through her capacity building and counseling skills as well as promoting women's human rights through a proactive approach in schools. Esther is married to James Zachary Mugo and they have three children.

Anthony Musyoka

Anthony has vast expertise in leadership and direction for Human Resources globally, including the ability to work well and fit in a multi-racial, multi-disciplinary environment/culture. He is currently the VP of Human Resources for the International AIDS Vaccine Initiative based in New York City. He is also the Director, Institute of Personnel Management, Kenya (IPM) and an Associate Member with Kenya Institute of Management (KIM). He has brought with him a lot of wealth by offering strategic direction to CREAW as an organization, streamlining of the human resource department as well as engaging at policy making levels towards the achievement of CREAW’s objectives. Anthony is married to Rose Mburu Malonza and they have three children.

Dr Onesmus Wairumbi Gachuno

Dr Gachuno is a skilled and gifted Consultant Obstetrician and Gynecologist as well as research consultant, lecturer, medical advisor, medical co-coordinator and previously a Senior Medical officer at various hospitals in the country. His now varied experience in the medical fraternity was birthed all began in 1991. Currently, he is also the advisor PMTCT Programme at the Kenyatta National Hospital.

His vast experience is instrumental in our human and reproductive health rights approach in our program work as well as insightful to our counseling department especially through his advocacy initiatives geared toward ending the prevalence of domestic violence amongst women attending Gynecology clinics in Kenyatta National Hospital, amid others. Dr. Gachuno is married to Margaret Njine and they are blessed with three children.

Wangechi Wachira - Executive Director

Wangechi is the innovative and inspiring Executive Director of CREAW and Head of Policies and Systems. She has over 5 years of experience in human rights, gender, development, and equity initiatives within civil society.  She earned her B.A. in Social Sciences and Diploma in Cultural Tourism from the University of Nairobi.  She has also engaged in various international training programs, such as the Training in Human Rights at the Raul Wallenberg Institute in Sweden.  She is currently pursuing an M.A. in Gender and Development at the University of Nairobi.

As the Executive Director, Wangechi serves as the Chief Executive Officer of the organization and manages the day-to-day operations of the same. She serves as a professional advisor to the board and recommends appropriate policy issues for the board's attention, as well as implementing already adopted policies. She also assists the board in developing and conducting advocacy programs. In addition she recruits and develops competent staff. Wangechi is married to Robert Moegi and together they have two daughters.
